‘Grim’

It was a grim, lake district day when I shot this image. Initially I had walked up Side Pike, the hill just to the right of centre with the intention of shooting down on to Blea Tarn.

However the weather had other ideas and the deluge of rain that poured down on me when I reached the top soaked me through and made photography impossible. Not to be deterred I walked back to the bench, just under the trees behind where I took this image.

As I sat drinking a cup of hot chocolate, feeling like it was just another of those ‘wasted landscape photography days’ the clouds began to break, ever so slightly. I set the camera up, in hope more than judgement in the ‘iconic position’ and for a fleeting 10 seconds or so the Langdales just poked through the cloud, just long enough to capture this image.

When I look at this today it pretty much sums up the typical weather of the Lakes and reminds me of how a day that started without any promise turned into something pretty special.
